Powder Coatings
- the European Overview
The powder coatings process is widely accepted as one
of the fastest growing finishing technologies in the
world, making the international powder coating market
an extremely attractive one and offering a viable alternative
to traditional coating techniques. Often referred to
as 'dry painting', the technique owes its progressive
multi-market penetration to both the durability of its
finish and its minimal impact on the environment.
The resistance of powder coatings to chipping, scratching,
fading and wearing renders them one of the paint industry's
most economical, permanent and colourfast quality finishes.
Which is why they have penetrated so many markets with
diverse product applications.
Many household appliances and their parts are finished
in powder coatings - from refrigerator panels to dryer
drums; from dishwasher racks to lawn mower casings.
In the automotive industry, applications for powder
coatings are no longer limited to the finishes for bumpers,
hubcaps and engine parts; powder coatings are now adding
long-lasting protection to the bodies of some of Europe's
most prestigious cars. Architectural furniture - such
as window and door frames, guard rails, posts and fencing
- all enjoy the benefits of protective powder coatings.
Powder coatings are highly sympathetic to the environment.
No solvents are introduced at any time during the spray,
heating or fusing process, and, in addition, the amount
of volatile organic compounds released into the atmosphere
is negligible - also eliminating the need for pollution
control equipment. Virtually all powder coatings not
applied in the heat adhesion process can be retrieved
and re-used, greatly reducing the waste normally associated
with liquid finishing.
In summary, the powder coating market is robustly set
for continued development, combining the dual advantages
of durability and low environmental impact across industry
sectors of every classification.
IRL's powder coatings reports closely scrutinise
the industry, helping businesses to assess the opportunities
that continue to open within it. These reports are invaluable
to all marketers turning their attention to the growing
industrial markets of Central and Eastern Europe.
